Finally got a chance to chill at Beer Garden Radio Dalam, thanks to unexpected heavy rain and expected traffic jams around Jakarta Selatan. A gentle warning for those of you planning to drive around Jakarta Selatan at 5 PM, YOU BETTER NOT unless you’re stopping at Beer Garden. It’s strategically located at a crowded intersection, which is why it’s never vacant.
This popular bar at Radio Dalam area has a spacious parking space for cars and motorcycles with indoor and outdoor area. As you park, you will wonder for a few seconds where the entrance is. To spare you from looking silly (like I did, the other day ), the entrance to Beer Garden is a grey ramp to the upper ground which is friendly for wheelchairs or…hoverboards (in case you bring one, you show off). The staff will greet you right away and take you to your desired seats.
Since I have a lot of desire for a good seating, it took a 1-minute journey around Beer Garden and 4 side-to-side head shakes till I finally decide to sit on the sofa where the lighting’s not too dim and it’s located right in front of the TV. The agile friendly staff went to take the Menu and handed it to me. For a bar named Beer Garden, they really have quite a long list of beers and longer list of spirits (which I think they should have named themselves “Spirit Garden” but on second thought that would be mean something else in a creepy way ).
As I’m both a safety player and an adventurer, I ordered Classic Margarita and one recommended drink, Hello Aloha. Classic Margarita is my safe choice of the night – IDR 85k and Hello Aloha is my adventurous choice of the night – IDR 120k. Besides that, I’m also order a mix of Anejo rum, coconut water & cream, and lemon & lime juice. As I’m also a professional nibbler, Nachos and Assorted Fritters were not left out of my order list. My quick glance lasted real quick, since the staffs served my order in less than 10 minutes. Got to sip the Frozen Margarita first and boy I did not regret ordering it. Right astringency, sweetness, freshness, and alcohol kick, just the way I like it.
I took a quick glance around the area and concluded that Beer Garden is really a safe haven for young adults. So ,expect a casual dress code or if you want to dress up simply put on some wrinkled work attire and Monday-looking face. Since it’s an open area with good air flow, there is no air conditioner and people are free to smoke. Coziness is doubled by their woody furniture, touch of black and brown color palette, green plants, and rustic cool vibe.
Then I moved on to appreciate how good looking the Hello Aloha is and then took a sip. It tasted OK and since they put a lot of ice, after a few minutes it became tasteless. Let’s just say I should have just stick with my safety player side and order two of the Margaritas. Surprisingly, their Nachos and Assorted Fritters tasted literally finger-licking good . Nachos is well-seasoned with red umami seasoning, topped with Melted Cheddar Cheese, served with Chili Cheesy Mayo & Tomato Salsa (it would have been 10/10 if they add Avocado Salsa for the dips). Beer Garden’s Assorted Fritters of Pommes Frites, Calamari, Crispy Chicken Wings, and Thai Money Bag were served with generous portion for 2 pax and every single component was nicely seasoned and cooked.
Overall, I recommend Beer Garden for a casual after hour chit chat with friends and colleagues. One of my favorite spots at Beer Garden is their clean and cool restroom (the only place where they put air conditioners ). In conclusion, their great ambience, friendly service, nice drinks, and decent meals (and comfy restroom ) are Beer Garden’s strong points.
